Summer is here and in full swing! As the weather heats up, nothing will compare to the techno inferno that will be Governors Island this Independence Day weekend. Berlin based global giant HYTE returns to the Big Apple with a monstrous line-up once again, but this time its two stages and collaborating with a Detroit force.
HYTE is an international powerhouse, hosting flagship events all over the globe, dropping massive events in favored destinations like Ibiza, Berlin, and Amsterdam. The free spirited and crazy ethos of the early days of house and techno music run throughout all HYTE events with community the core of all the parties. Revelers are put into a trance via the thunderous beat, flashing lights, and undulating rhythms. Now more than ever the relationship between performer and listener is key to the mood of the event, and HYTE is an events series that allows that bond to not only exist, but also thrive.
Along for the ride this year is arguably the best electronic music festival in the United States, Movement, who has partnered with HYTE to provide an experience like no other. Bringing a strong line-up is something we’ve come to expect from HYTE but this year the bill is stacked with talent that would make even the snobbiest techno enthusiast salivate.
Stage one will be home to two of Berlin’s techno monsters, the deep, powerful and melancholic sounds of Rodhad, and Berghain veteran Marcel Dettmann. From the depths of underground Moscow clubs, Julia Govor joins the bill along with Matrixxman, and heavy hitters Richie Hawtin and Maceo Plex.
The Movement stage has a flavor all of its own featuring a personal favorite Peggy Gou, who’s sets are a kinetic combination of dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract compositions. Continuing the theme, the strong groove of Maya Jane Coles, the high-energy wide-range talent Jackmaster, and long time DC-10 and Ibiza legend Loco Dice. As a special treat, a smoldering collision of techno icons Speedy J and Chris Liebing will be preforming a special head to head collaboration set to cap the event.
Tickets are still available and I can’t wait to see you all on Governor’s Island for HYTE!
