Pre-Ultra Roundup: Avicii, Afrojack, Dada Life Hospitalized, Laidback Luke Flies Home

ULTRA

Day 1 of the highly anticipated Ultra Music Festival begins today in Miami, but some of the headliners are already entering headlines (and hospitals) before the festival has even started.

  • Mere hours before Tim Bergling a.k.a. Avicii was scheduled to play at the Ushuaia Ibiza stage at the SLS South Beach as part of his Avicii Hotel takeover, the Swedish DJ was suddenly hospitalized according to TMZ. A member of Avicii’s team told Crossfade, “He did get sick this afternoon. His buddy Alesso came to sub for him.” While there has been no official word on what caused the sudden hospitalization, he is reported to have been discharged from the hospital, but is no longer staying at the SLS. Avicii remains scheduled to headline the main stage at Ultra Music Festival.
  • Hours after Avicii entered the hospital, his buddy Nick Van De Wall a.k.a. Afrojack soon joined him with a hospitalization stint of his own, citing “dehydration” and being “overworked”.
  • Also last night, Sweden’s favorite duo Dada Life confirmed in a press release that 1/2 of Dada Life, Stefan Engblom is en route to their home country of Sweden for urgent last-minute abdominal surgery:

“We wanted to let everyone know that unfortunately Stefan has had to fly back to Sweden to have some urgent abdominal surgery. It has to be done now to prevent more serious conditions in the future, as of right now we don’t know the recovery time but will have a timeline from the doctors in the coming days and will keep you all posted.
For the upcoming shows this weekend in Miami, Las Vegas and Boise please note that Olle will be coming and playing a full Dada Life show. Do The Dada.”
  • Finally, a bit of good news: Laidback Luke is on his way to the maternity ward as his wife Gina Turner has gone into labor early this morning! His UMF Set and Miami Kung Fu Takeover Set have both been cancelled. Congratulations Lucas!
