Sonic Selections Presents: Meltdown Mondays 09.05.16
Personally, I am loving the playlist this week. Lot’s of different genres and some of my favorite stuff to listen to. Hope you guys dig it too!
This track is about a month old but it popped up on my feed this week and I had never heard it before, so we’ll file it under “semi-new”. Love these guys together. I consider them a little off the grid as far as relation to some of the bigger names in future funk but they’re definitely top of the list for me. I’m sure you can see why with this track, which was released as a Sunrise Collective single. Both producers are from the UK.
Datassette – “Offal” (Vinyl Preview)
OK, so you guys definitely need some back story on this track. Datassette is a UK label and last year they release a compilation of 100 favorites, re-dos, and unreleased tracks. This year, they wanted to release that compilation on vinyl, so I wanted to show you guys what to expect. I know I’ll be running to get my copy. This is awesome.
Nanqo – “Mind”
Super cute and upbeat, what’s not to like?! Let me get my strut on and tongue up some fruits in Yoshi’s Story to this jazzy lil banger. Nanqo is from Cali.
I LOVE THIS. THIS MUST BE THE DOING OF SIDECHAINS/GOOD ENUFF BECAUSE IT’S PERFECT. I’m racking up the listens on this track. Oh Boy & Donatachi are from Sydney. Mallrat I believe is from Cali. I hope they keep collabing because everything works and I’m craving more.
touchstone – “Dray”
This is different. And wonderful. I can’t tell if that sample is as is or if it’s skewed in some way, that glass xylophone-sounding piece is fantastic. This is a very different way to do future funk and I’m so into it. Things are crunched down and then brought back up…I am hooked.
Gonna take things down a notch and mellow the playlist out. First of all, shout out to these guys for using that OG Sonic Sega Genesis sample, top notch. I love the melodic synth throughout. It’s jazzy af, it’s chill, it’s just what I need at night. Both dudes are from London.
Future Otaku – “I Feel U”
Finally, wrapping up today’s Meltdown Monday is a new one from one of my favorite future funk producers, Mexico’s Future Otaku. The amount of production control I hear in his tracks blows my mind. They always sound perfect. And this one is up for a download too! That never happens.
