Make it New Presents: Patrice Baümel
Come to Make it New at Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge Thursday, March 31st to experience an artist, producer and DJ who approaches music as a holistic adventure: Make it New presents: Patrice Baümel.
A stalwart of the Amsterdam music scene, Patrice Baümel is a producer and artist of epic proportions. With releases on Kompakt, !K7, Get Physical, My Favorite Robot, Systematic, and his acclaimed debut album Vapour, Patrice Baümel’s work speaks for itself and proves why he held residencies at legendary clubs like Club 11 and Trouw. Though most would label his work as “techno” Patrice melds his affinity of melodic, ambient, emotional, electronica with the throb and kick of pounding dark techno.
Joining with the illustrious Balance Presents cannon curated by Australian powerhouses Magda and Stacey Pullen, Patrice Baümel joins the ranks of Balance Presents innovators such as Guy J, Kölsch, Fur Coat, and Jozif. Instead of a normal DJ set of blending, mixing, and sampling, Patrice Baümel wanted to create something entirely different from the norm. He decided that instead of putting out a DJ set or album he wanted to weave the two together to “make a composition in its own right.”
Entwining uplifting melodies with mesmerizing harmonies, Patrice Baümel’s compilation is not meant for the casual music listener. A perfect at-home-after-the-party mix, this compilation features three exclusive new productions from Baümel. The first is a compelling introduction to grab the listener right in the feels. The second is a dark, dramatic remix to Underworld’s “Bird 1” that Baümel made specifically for this mix. Let me tell you, this “Bird 1” remix is one of those tracks which clutches at your soul and leaves you no choice but to dance. the last is an outro that captures the emotional voyage which Patrice Baümel takes you on
Patrice Baümel’s Balance Presents compilation is released in North America on April 29, 2016. When asked about it Patrice said:
“I hope for the mix to contain enough intelligence and emotion to be a worthwhile listen under many circumstances. It’s not all easy listening; some parts really have teeth. So by nature, the mix is not – and was never meant to be – for people with a low tolerance for music and sound that is outspoken. I didn’t want to dumb it down. I think it’s a great after-hour home party mix but I hope that it sparks people’s imagination and creativity in all kinds of situations”
